 Resume

Igor I. Gorban, Dr. Sc., Professor, was born in Kiev on 30 August, 1952.
In 1975 he graduated from Kiev Polytechnic Institute majoring in Hydroacoustics, and in 1978 - from postgraduate studies by the same major.
He defended his Ph. D. thesis in 1980 at the MorPhysPribor Central Research Institute and his Dr. Sc. dissertation in 1991 at the Institute of Cybernetics of the Academy of Sciences (Ukraine). He was awarded academic rank of Senior Research Associate in 1989, and the rank of Professor in 2000.
He worked at Kiev Research Institute of Hydroequipment until 1992, and participated in a number of developmental and research works. He was the First Deputy of Chief Designer of the sonar system with towed array, and was in charge of algorithms of the systems. He was also Chief Designer of a development project for creation of the sonar with the towed array based on optical element base, and a research adviser of two Pacific scientific expeditions for study of hydroacoustic signals.
Since 1992 to this time, he works at the Institute of Mathematical Machines and Systems Problems in the capacity of a Principal Scientist and later of a Deputy Director in Science. From 2004 to 2008, he worked at the SE "UkrSRTC" as a Deputy Director General in Science.
Professor I. Gorban is actively engaged in science, educational and science-administrative work. He was a scientific adviser of several research projects, professor at the Kiev Institute of Air Force, and a member of the expert counsel of the Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine. He supervises research of postgraduate students. He is a member of specialized counsels for defence of Dr. Sc. dissertations, editorial boards of scientific journals, international scientific societies including the Acoustical Society of America (ASA), the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), etc.
Professor I. Gorban is the author of three theories:
  •  the theory of space-time processing of hydroacoustic signals under complex dynamic conditions [1, 6, 7],
  • the theory of fast multi-channel processing of hydroacoustic signals [1, 6, 7],
  • the physical-mathematical theory of hyper-random phenomena [5, 8].
Results of Prof. I. Gorban's researchs were published in more than 150 scientific works, including 8 books, and implemented in the number of sonar systems.

Abstract: The monograph is dedicated to the theory which describes physical phenomena in non-constant statistical conditions. The theory is a new direction in probability theory and mathematical statistics that gives new possibilities for presentation of physical world by hyper-random models. These models take into consideration the changing of object's properties, as well as uncertainty of statistical conditions.
The book may be useful for scientists and engineers that develop methods of mathematical description of physical phenomena, create new physical and mathematical models, research and develop new methods of measurement, estimation, and detection.
The book is oriented for readers which have knowledge of probability theory and mathematical statistics within base courses of technical universities.

Abstract: The monograph is dedicated to optimization of space-time signal processing (STSP) with account of complex antenna motion, noise, and medium particularities together, and to development of fast multichannel STSP methods requiring low computational efforts.
The book may be useful for researchers working under the problem of STSP optimization, programmers implementing the multichannel STSP, and designers of sonar and radar systems.
The book is aimed at readers with basic knowledge of applied hydroacoustics and signal processing within basis courses of technical universities.

Abstract: The monograph is dedicated to the physico-mathematical theory which describes physical events, variables, processes, and fields in non-constant statistical conditions.
The book is oriented to different readers: ones that have only some images about probability theory and want to obtain information about modern statistical methods taking into consideration statistical instability of real physical phenomena, engineers that widely use statistical methods, mathematicians working in probability theory area, and physicists looking for the basis of universe.
