1960-1964 - technician, senior technician, engineer of the Tbilisi Scientific Research Institute for Instrument-making and Automation Means;
1964-1967 - post-graduate student of the Institute of Cybernetics of the USSR Academy of Sciences;
1965-1992 - engineer, leading engineer, head of laboratory, head of department, head of department of the Kyiv Institute for Automation;
1992 - 07.2011 - academic secretary of the Institute of Mathematical Machines and Systems Problem of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (IMMSP NASU);
07.2011 - 01.2016 - present-senior research scientist, acting manager of the department of scientific organization of scientific research and technical works (DSOSRTW) IMMSP NASU.

An experience in research and production work:

V. Khodak engaged in research of the Soviet industrial enterprises in terms of feasibility of application of computer technology and control systems to improve efficiency and quality of their work, the creation their models, the definition of economic feasibility of systems management functions and technical specifications on their creation.
There were investigated all enterprises of the tire industry of the USSR and the mathematical model of a typical enterprise was constructed. On its basis the rational typical solutions (system, functional, programmatic, technical, information, and language) were developed, and they partially or fully were implemented in all enterprises of the industry.
There were developed the methods of construction of economically sound systems of control at various levels.
Under Khodak's guidance and his direct participation there were created and implemented the complex control systems by enterprises of various levels and the automation facilities at all enterprises of the tire industry on the USSR and many enterprises, including in gas, petrochemical, defence and other industries.

He was awarded with Order of the Badge of Honor, medals and other awards.

Published more then 200 scientific papers and inventions, including 1 monograph.
