About organization      In 1963 year on initiative of an academician V.М. Glushkov, the founder of Ukrainian cybernetic school, the Special Design Bureau of Mathematical Machines and Systems  of the Institute of Cybernetics NAS of Ukraine (IC SDB MMS) as experimental project and production was founded. In July, 1992 it outgrew into large scientific organization in the field of informatics - The Institute of Mathematical Machines and Systems Problems NAS of Ukraine (IMMSP NASU).

    In 2013, the collective of IPMMS of the NAS of Ukraine celebrated the 90^th anniversary of the birth of V.M. Glushkov and the 50^th anniversary of the creation of SCB MMS. The collective monograph "The Institute of Problems of Mathematical Machines and Systems. 50 years of scientific activity", which was published in 2014, is devoted to these significant anniversaries.

At the beginning of 60^th in connection with rapid development of scientific researches in cybernetics the problem of the practical mastering of the got theoretical developments by a national economy and defence of country the special actuality acquired.

The most essential "pioneer" developments of this period are:

• the first in the world the professional personal computers "MIR-1", "MIR-2", "MIR-3" with a structural interpretation of input programming languages of high level (USSR State prize);
• the first in the USSR automated control system by a production, introduced on the Lvov Television Factory (the ASC "Lvov") (State prize of Ukraine);
• the typical terminal complex "BARS", oriented to the construction of the multilevel automated systems of collection, transmission and data processing, and etc.;
• the first in a country flexible production system on the base of processing centers IR-32,
  IR-500, robot-treylers, terminal complex "BARS" and automated store-houses, which was developed jointly with Ivaniv machine-tool production society and was introducted on the row of metal-working enterprises of the USSR, one of which was rewarded with the State prize of Ukraine;
• the integrated automated control system NPO "Energy" (Kaliningrad city of the Moscow region);
• the first in the USSR the complex automated control system for Ulіanovsk aviation complex;
• the first in the USSR control machines are "Dnepr-1" and "Dnepr-2", which served a technical base for many automated system of control by technological processes;
• the system to control docking and flights of "Soіuz"-"Apollon", is a general American-soviet project, and it was rewarded with the State prize of the USSR;
• the control complex of high reliability for the control telephone long-distances "Neva-1М", that serially produced by the "Robotron" combine (NDR);
• the first in the world multiprocessors super-computer SS 2701 (Single System), SS 1766 with macro conveyer organization data processing and structure, which dynamically adapts oneself to the class of tasks which are decided (State prize of Ukraine);
• the first in the USSR display with a light pen introduced in composition of PC "MIR-2" in a mass production;
• the specialized digital calculating complex "TSIKL-2М" and a proper system for automatic control of profile of blades of aviation turbojet engines (State prize of Ukraine);
• the first in the USSR board problem-oriented computer "Express-1" on the large hybrid integrated circuits for processing hydro acoustic signals;
• the automated system of data processing of flying tests of aviation techniques "Virazh";
• the board problem-oriented computer complexes "EKSPAN" and "PIRS" for processing experimental data complex testing full-scale specimens of navy products in a ground and nautical conditions;
• the specialized board computer "Scorpion", "Moscow";
• the board problem-oriented computer complexes "Standard", "Etalon" for the systems of the metrological providing tests of compound techniques and attestation of measuring methods in the centers of standardization and metrology at the republican networks level;
• the automated system of the on-road testing of the armored machinery "Kran" (State prize of Ukraine);
• the information computer systems are "BARK" and "Course" for board and surface processing of mooring, nautical and flight testing data of ekranoplans of types "Orlenok" and "Lun" ;
• the board systems "GAMMA-5110" and "SOS-216" for express processing of data flying tests and decision of heat-vision search tasks, exposure and accompaniment of air and surface objects;
•  the board information computer complexes of control flight "Cross-2" and landing "Cross-1" of "MIG-29" and "SU-27"  airplane's types on the aircraft carrier decks;

In 60-80^th years which were marked by enormous achievements of native science and techniques in the sphere of space researches, the SDB MMS had a number of successful developments in this direction:

• the automated system of processing and visualization of telemetric data which was created on the basis of the specialized computer complex (SCC) "Delta" (IC SDB MMS development), provided the successful execution of research program of Galley comet; 
• on the basis of the SCC "Delta" the Center of prognostication and liquidation of hard consequences on Chernobyl Nuclear Electric Station (NES) was created for operative informing the State commission about distribution of radionuclide in water, air and fauna that allowed accepting the grounded decisions on Government level in Ukraine.

For the last 30 years the collective of scientists of IMMSP NASU has attained considerable successes in development of modern science (the most significant results are illustrated on the slides).

• Theoretical bases and technology of construction of the automated intellectual systems of support making-decision are created for a management the country, departments, large industrial, pertaining to national economy associations, corporations and others on the basis of situation modeling (the "Situation Centres" type systems).
      Methodological principles of the use of new methods of modeling and analysis of information technology of e-governance and e-democracy in distributed information and analytical systems.

• A few generations of the automated systems of informative support of law-making activity of different levels deputies ("Rada-1", "Rada-2", "Rada-3" etc.) were  developed and introduced in more than 10 law-making departments of Ukraine and abroad, including the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and Verkhovna Rada of the Crimea and Uzbekistan and Tajikistan parliaments.
      Guidance of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine highly estimated the "Rada-3" system the use of which promotes quality of law-making process substantially, that was especially marked in the process of preparation and acceptance of Ukraine Constitution etc. The system was awarded by the State Prize of Ukraine.

• According to plan of the preparation to Euro-2012 requirement specification and technical project of the system of emergency help a population with the common telephone 112 were developed and protected.
  
  
• In the interest of national defense in 2015 the Institute staff on a voluntary basis has developed and supported a number of such research projects as:
        - automated control system of tactical level “Mars”. The elements of the system were tested in the area of ​​ATO and received approval reviews from the commanders of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine and foreign experts. In addition to this, the system prototype was successfully presented to the senior management of Armed Forces of Ukraine as well as the President of Ukraine. The chief of General Staff – the Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine decided to conduct preliminary testing systems in one of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
       - automated centralized system of command and control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, preliminary tests of a prototype which will be held from 21 to 25 December. The system is intended to replace obsolete equipment and improve the quality and efficiency of command and control. According to experts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine annual effect of its implementation will be about 4.5 mln. UAH;
       - in according to the requirements developed by the Institute of System project on creation of Unified automated system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine worked out and approved the technical documentation of enclosed research and development works performed in the interests of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
         An analysis of the world of experience, “best practices”, international standards and NATO standards for life cycle management (from designing to utilization) of information (information and telecommunication) systems. There were provided relevant recommendations on possible regulatory and legal instruments that will allow implementation of these “best practices” in the activities of the departments of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
        In 2019, a number of important research-scientific works and research-development works have been developed, which are aimed at increasing the state's defense capabilities.
  At the request of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, an analysis of international standards in the field of creation and use of information systems and information protection measures was performed, a draft Technical Regulation for information and telecommunication infrastructure of information systems in the field of defense was developed.
  Modern process approaches to the management of information system lifecycle that correspond to the discipline of systems engineering were introduced into the project activities of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. It will significantly reduce the time of information systems implementation in the defense sphere and ensure proper project management. 
  In 2021, there were developed recommendations for the creation of the ACS of missile forces and artillery (MF and A) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the operational (operational-tactical) level. The developed software has sufficient levels of quality indicators for the utilization of the ACS MF and А automation equipment model complexes at the operational (operational-tactical) level to examine the given recommendations and the use of the model as a constructive prototype for the development of ACS MF and А software.
  In 2022, research and analysis of the combat use of the complexes of means of automating control of artillery reconnaissance and fire of artillery units were conducted; preliminary technical solutions for the creation of a typical automation solutions complex (ASC) for controlling artillery reconnaissance and fire of artillery units were substantiated and developed for the first time.
  The choice of architecture and rational composition was made and the tasks for special software of operational (operational-tactical) and tactical levels were developed. For the first time, algorithms and special software for ASC were developed and an active model of artillery reconnaissance and fire control of artillery units was created.

• Conception of the open recurrent neural networks and method of non-iterative training of theirs were developed, that solve the problem of radical rapid learning. On the basis of such neural networks a new model of nuclear dynamical associative memory was developed, which is suitable for real-time. Its effectiveness is confirmed experimentally by the examples of adaptive recognition of dynamic patterns. The results have been used in 2 projects of the NATO and the INTAS programs.

• Institute scientists developed mathematical models of radionuclides in water, on soil and in air. Built on their basis system of modeling and prognostication of consequences of technogenic catastrophes have played an important role in preparation of decisions of the governmental commissions of liquidation concerning of hard consequences on Chernobyl NES and of Dikan cleansing erections of the Kharkov sewerage network. Works of scientists of the institute on this area have the world level.
      Several automated systems of support of decision-making (SSDM) on the problems of environment safety and effective nature using were created on the basis of the developed mathematical models. There were executed works on improvement and updating different systems.
  Tens of international grants and contracts are got on development of the works after these directions.

• In 2020, a mathematical model of forecasting the epidemiological situation in Ukraine was built in order to calculate the main epidemiological parameters. An automatic algorithm for calibrating the parameters of the mathematical model for adjusting forecasts daily after the appearance of new statistical information was developed. Forecasts were made for each region of Ukraine. Local information on the population of the regions and the capacity of hospitals were used for the calculations. An automatic tool was created to recalculate and adjust parameters daily after the appearance of new statistical information.
  In 2021, the existing mathematical model of the SARS-CoV-2 spread in Ukraine was improved and configured. Evaluations of the effectiveness of vaccines in the prevention of hospitalization were carried out. 11 analytical reports and forecasts concerning mathematical modeling of the spread of the epidemic in Ukraine were published and used for the analysis and making management decisions by the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health and the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
  In 2022, the assessment of excess mortality in Ukraine due to the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic from March 2020 and January 2022 was carried out. It showed an increase in the number of deaths from all causes to 209,000. A web interface for the analysis and visualization of epidemic and demographic data was developed. Five analytical reports and forecasts concerning mathematical modeling of the spread of the epidemic in Ukraine were published.

• Architectures of protection systems of communication means were developed and on their base the crypto-devices family for protection of a mobile telephone system of the GSM-standard was created.
      The methods of construction and architecture of the systems of information protection for the local networks and the family of the type hardware and software components were developed from which similar systems are built. The systems of mobile communication were accepted by the proper commission of Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and recommended to use in the organs of state administration.

• The theoretical foundations, methods and technologies of the model-oriented control by production systems were developed, and on their basis jointly with the Institute of the electric welding the name of Ye. Paton NAS of Ukraine on the order of Boing corp. firm (the USA) the unique options of the electron beam welding of new generation KL115, KL118, KL117 were developed and introduced, with technical descriptions and functional possibilities which have not analogues in the world.  For this development the team of scientists was awarded the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology in 2006.
    
• The family of computer algebra systems with the input languages of high level "ANALITIC-93", "ANALITIC-2000", "ANALITIC-2007" was created and introduced in scientific researches and educational process in a number of universities of Ukraine. 
       The "challenges" class of computer algebra, which productive solution is possible only by automatic programs with a high level of "artificial" intelligence was defined. A correct approach to the description of tasks in the form of algebraic equations for stable physical (technical) facilities was designed.

• Fundamentally a new ideology was developed. From it a new technology of  simultaneous data processing and distributed modeling and controlling in the open dynamic systems was developed and tested in different countries, including Germany, England, Ireland, the USA, Canada and Japan. It is based on effective spatial interpretation of "WAVE-WP" - the special high level language. The technology is protected by the European patent and by two monographs, published by publishing house John Wiley & Sons. Inc., the USA. 

• New methods, algorithms and programs of digital processing of radiolocation signals were developed and on their basis firstly in Ukraine jointly with KRF "Burevisnyk" the radiolocation sea-based station with digital processing of signals - MR-244-2М - was created, which passed successfully the full scale tests on the cape of Sarych, Crimea ("Marine chain").
  
  In 2021, there was developed a new approach to creating a digital radar terrain map for navigating an aircraft on a trajectory close to a vertical one relative to the surface of Earth. The obtained results can be used as source material for theoretical and practical research in the field of designing an all-weather high-precision navigation radar system.

   

• The high effective stereophonic multimedia complex VSTU-50 and the movable cinema saloon were created, produced and accepted on arming by Ukraine's Ministry of Defence (MD) with the purposes of counteraction hostile agitation, an increasing competitive spirit, a providing in the field conditions of the morally psychological and military-professional training and education of personnel of the sections of Ukraine's Armed Forces.

• System of "Monitoring potentially hazardous military sites" was put into research operation at the facilities of the pilot model.

• Three-level model of SSDM was developed (in an environment Windows XP, Oracle DBMS and ArcMap) for management of forces and means of Ukraine's Armed Forces during emergencies.   

• Systems of "Accounting storage, movement and use of resource logistics for the nomenclature of Navy Forces of Ukraine" and "Calculations of planning logistics of Navy Forces of Ukraine" were elaborated. 
  
  
• A group classification of nonlinear control systems of the third order of one and two control actions was conducted. The program of group classification of the systems control of third order in the system of "Maple" was developed. The new algorithms were proposed and new representations in solving the problem of optimal model plane output of orbit were obtained.
  
  
•   An improved spectral and phase algorithm of precision navigation by image area was developed and tested experimentally. A new method of visual 3D-navigation for unmanned flying devices was developed as well as software model of single-chamber system of 3D-visual navigation “Cyclops” was created.
  

  For high precision navigation systems of high dynamic visual aircraft was made a number of world-class developments.

  
  
•   In cooperation with several Institutes of Mechanics and Institute of Geological Sciences NASU, Branch Institutes of the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine and the Geological Department of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University on demand of management of CRE "Mine named after O.F. Zasyadko" developed technical proposals and terms of reference for the creation of software and hardware center safety management of coal mine production.

• A methodology for assessment of violation of static stability of physical values and processes on lengthy time intervals has been developed. By means of it, violations of static stability of a chain of physical values and processes, in particular, fluctuations of electric network voltage, magnetic field of Earth, period and height of sea waves, etc. have been discovered.

• A new physical model of generation of magnetic field by the conductor with a current has been proposed, and a scheme of coherent amplification of the current's magnetic field in the system magnetic-conductor under the condition of use of magnetic in the form of transformer steel has been developed. Simulation of an active technological environment with volume up to 10 dm³  with intensive magnetic field created by the industrial frequency current has been carried out.
  
  The physico-mathematical model of transformation of various forms of energy: magnetic, thermal and electromagnetic was proposed. The existing examples of electric power conversion into heat, characterized by high efficiency and property accumulation heat were designed.

• A plan of development of urban cadastre of Ukraine at the state level was created.
  
  
• The ideology of the project of monitoring of  "Heliomed" for more intensive researches in branch geliobiology has been offered. This scale project of co-ordinate of time and space allows to receive. Groups of people in different widths it is spent for this purpose. By results of researches of monitoring of the project of "Heliomed" the algorithm of search of effects in groups is developed and offered.
       The algorithms and corresponding programs of WEB-oriented technology of "Heliomed" portal that allow to make a quantitative assessment of digital colour images of microbiologic specimen that are the most sensitive to fluctuations of space weather were developed. The received results can be used for the prevention of fatal effects of external helio- and geophysical factors to people suffering from cardiovascular disease.

• For the purpose of transportation of cardiogrammes to grid-storehouse technical specifications are developed. Also applied programs are created. On grid-clusters the example of the test for processing of the information of medicine of great volumes is approved. On clusters UAG the medical information processing is spent. For this purpose the virtual organisation medgrid is created  (http://medgrid.immsp.kiev.ua/).
        The structural methods of processing visual information in applied medical informatics problems are developing and constantly improving.

• A multidimensional dynamic model for market economy forecasting has been developed and implemented, as well as advanced software package to support the analysts in making prompt decisions in the field of economy.

• The experimental model of control and information system of railway crossings “Blagovist” was developed for the first time. It promotes traffic safety through railway crossings and can be widely used for railway in Ukraine.

• Probabilistic-physical theory of reliability of the computing engineering facilities and automation systems was created, developed and used in practice. On the basis of the got fundamental results the mathematical apparatus is developed, which has not analogues in the world and allows using the new more exact methods of remaining resource estimation of mechanical and electric equipments.
      New probabilistic-physical and informational-cybernetic approaches were developed to design, develop and implement of dependability and sustainability information-control computer real-time systems based on highly reliable (infallible) and fault-tolerant computing facilities.

       The IMMSP NASU is accredited as an Organ of the Certification of Systems of Control by Quality of Products in the International System of Certification SIC, which passed accreditation according the requirements of the European standards (EN 45011) successfully. The test laboratory "OC UkrCertComputer" is a part of this organ and which is also accredited by the National Standard of Ukraine and National Agency of Accreditation of Ukraine according the requirements of the International standard DSTU ISO/EN 17025.
  
  
• A methodology for risk assessment of objects under the paradigm of a risk-oriented approach and recommendations for the creation of typical models of industries based on models of hazardous objects has been created. Typical models of safety management in the most dangerous industries (energy and chemical industry) have been developed.
  
  Methodological bases of information technology of safety management on the basis of the risk-oriented approach are created, implementation of which provides increase of level of safety and prevention of emergency situations.

   
• The Concept of technology of data census processing and design documentation for the creation of an automated system for collecting and processing data of the All-Ukrainian Population Census has been developed. 

• Energy-efficient LED lighting system was developed and it is in implementation.

• There were designed, manufactured and implemented at public joint-stock company “Fakel”, limited liability partnership “Termokomplex”, limited liability partnership “EVRAZHRUP”, Brovary Municipal Equipment Plant sensors DT-5 of automatic emergency pipelines.
  
  In 2019-2021, there were developed, manufactured and implemented at Private JSC "Fakel", Fastiv, small-sized sensors for chimneys at gas distribution and compressor stations. The sensors have minimum sizes, high sensitivity and a wide range of operating temperatures, they can operate in a non-aggressive to steel environment  from the signal from the device of the pressure gauge to control external electrical circuits.
